Congrats to Junior Sisk and Rambler’s Choice! Blue Side Of the Blue Ridge is now the #1 Bluegrass Album on Bluegrass Unlimited’s National Radio Chart!
This is my first involvement with anything hitting the top of the charts, and I’m very grateful that they saw fit to include one of my songs on this fantastic album. If you don’t have a copy yet, be sure to order one today at http://juniorsiskandramblerschoice.com/merchandise!
As some of you know I had a bit of a mishap avoiding some wildlife, and hurt my knee when I found a ditch. All is ok, except for the car and the knee that is, but other than that I’m fine.
I’ve had a busy weekend, filling in with Bradley Walker’s Band on Friday and then two shows in Georgia (Bloomingdale and Calhoun) for Saturday and Sunday.
Being on crutches is NOT fun when you’re traveling, but it could be a lot worse.
The new Special C album “Signs” drops tomorrow, and that’s pretty exciting. It feels like it’s been a year since we started on it… oh wait, it has been! Hopefully it’ll be worth everyone’s hard work.
Well, that’s all for now! Hope to see everyone at Mashville tomorrow night! The band is Brandon Rickman, Jenee Fleenor, Randall Barnes, Aaron McDaris and myself.
At least that’s what the license plates say.
Here we are at a hotel in Salt Lake City after a long day of flying. The hotel is nice, except the TV remote will only make the channel go down, so if you want to go back to what you just saw you have to go all the way around the dial. It’s pretty funny… it’s like the remote saying “You’re lazy, so I’ll be lazy.”
I guess we have the right to be a little lazy. Our original flight from Chicago was delayed, so we ran to another gate to get on another flight, and still after being here in SLC for 7 hours, we don’t have have our checked bags. Apparently a certain airline, that will remain nameless other than they have a region in their name and it doesn’t have the word “south” in it, seems to be dead set on our demise. They do this a lot. Delays, lost bags, and rude customer service agents. One time they even spilled jet fuel all over Justin’s guitar case. Too bad they have the cheapest or only flights to a lot of the places we go. We’re all pretty tired of paying $15 to check a bag, too. Gas went down folks, time to stop ripping us off!
At least the arrival into Salt Lake was pretty… snow covered mountains all over and then the City tucked between them. I would take some pictures and show you guys, but somebody broke into my car in Nashville the other week and stole my travel bag with my camera, ipod, and some other things I really need. What a headache. Oh well! Guess it happens, but it sure isn’t fun when it does. I rarely have that stuff with me but I had just put in a new kind of contacts and was afraid I’d need my glasses or some drops and just grabbed the whole thing as I went out the door. That’s not a normal thing in Nashville, so don’t be scared away. I guess it happens in every town.
Anyway, we had a nice time at the Kid’s Music Camp and Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Winter Weekend in Minneapolis. A lot of folks remembered me from when I played there with Alecia a few years ago. It was nice to be back there. Looked kinda different than it did with the 2-3 feet of snow on the ground that was there two years ago, but the people were just as nice.
Tomorrow we’re doing some in-school shows and then an evening concert here in Salt Lake, then it’s back to Chicago, then back to Nashville.
Speaking of Nashville, I hear it’s been nice weather there while I’ve been gone. 80 degrees! Wow. I’m sure it will be back to normal before I get back. Not that it matters that much, I’ve just had a case of the winter blues ever since I had to leave Miami without a ton of time at the beach. At least I got to see it though, right?
Anyway, hope all the local Nashville folks had fun at Mashville! Wish I was there right now!
Cya.

I’m back from a weekend and a long ride back from Miami, Florida and the Everglades Bluegrass Festival.
I used to get to play down in Florida this time of year quite a bit, but not so much this season. It sure was a welcome break after all the cold weather in North Dakota, Nashville, Boston, Ireland, and Illinois! I’m starting to think we bring it with us.
The festival was right across the road from the beach, so I made sure to get over there between sets and get a little sun. It was 82 degrees!
But just as our luck goes, we got to drive through Atlanta in the middle of the big snow storm that has been hitting everyone here in the eastern half pretty hard.
In the middle of all of this, Greg’s flight got canceled, and we blew a tire. But in the end, all is well.
We all got home safely and I’m ready for Mashville tomorrow night.
Next weekend we’re in Minnesota, so I’m packing a coat and leaving the sunscreen behind. hehe
